I am always fascinated by the little unseen creatures that inhabit our world. And here is one of my new favorites – an ancient, odd, and very unknown insect probably right in your backyard under your feet. Well, maybe not your feet exactly but certainly under your rocks and stones. The order of insects called Diplurans, thanks to that two pronged tail and the end of the creature, are one of the most primitive insects in the world.  These animals look a lot like centipedes at first glance, but take a quick leg count and you will see that they are certainly not centipedes. That two pronged tail comes in handy for some species of Diplurans, by the way. They use it to grasp prey and then drag it up to the fangs at the front end. Heads and tails – they win. See if you can find one. It won’t be hard.
